    Description

    Large Antique Cast Iron Ornate Louvered Working Heat Grate,. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. This is a beautiful old cast iron heating system grate, likely used as a floor grate. It weighs 11 lbs and measures 14” wide by 10 3/4” high by 3” deep. The design is striking. The louvres work perfectly. The only “damage” to the grate is light surface rust which is amazing considering it has a patent date of 1890 stamped into the backs of the louvres along with the company name C R Co. there is no deep rust or cracking on the metal.
    This grate would look amazing with a fresh coat of black paint. However, I resisted the temptation to do that since someone may prefer another color. It looks like the insides of the louvres were once painted green, which is not nearly as neat looking. And, I should add that I may be weird, but I also think this item is beautiful as is. A remarkable fixture from a very long time ago.
