Description

The Abingdon Pottery Gamma Vase #107 was made in 1938 & 1939.  The shape was made in 3 sizes - 10 inch, 8 inch, & 6 inch.  The #107 is the middle size.
This piece with an art deco Oriental look has great mold definition in every detail of the vase - the Oriental medallion on the front & back, the graduated design on the handles, & the ribbing to the top rim of the vase.  It has a beautiful matte turquoise glaze that Abingdon imaginatively called Turquoise in their 1938 catalog.  It is 8 inches tall & 5 inches wide at the handles, with a top rim about 4-1/4 inches in diameter, & the bottom rim about 3-1/2 inches in diameter.  It has no Abingdon mark, but would likely have had a foil label.  The shape number 107 is impressed on the bottom.  An "x" has been scratched into the clay before firing - while many potteries used an "x" to denote a flaw, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this vase, so it may have been a caster's or glazer's mark for piece work.  It is in excellent vintage condition - no chips or hairlines or crazing.
